December 6, 2025 - Inauguration of the Consulate of Malta 🇲🇹 in Dinant

On Saturday, December 6, the city of Dinant hosted the inauguration of the Consulate of the Republic of Malta. This opening marks a new milestone for the city, which now hosts an official consular representation, complementing the already well-established diplomatic landscape in the province of Namur.

The Consulate of Malta relocates to Dinant

This inauguration follows the relocation of the chancellery of Baron Ernest de Lamine de Bex, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Malta for the Walloon Region, to its new address in Dinant.

For several years now, the province of Namur has been home to various consular representations, in line with its institutional role and the presence of the Walloon Government. The establishment of a consulate in Dinant is part of this dynamic, while marking a new milestone for the city, which thus joins the network of Walloon municipalities hosting diplomatic representations.

The participation of the Consular Corps of the Province of Namur in this inauguration demonstrates the attention paid to initiatives that contribute to the development of local diplomacy and the local anchoring of consular representations in Wallonia.

An inauguration marked by conviviality

The ceremony took place in an atmosphere that was both formal and warm. Several speeches punctuated the inauguration, with successive addresses by Baron Ernest de Lamine de Bex, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Malta, H.E. Vanni Xuereb, Ambassador of Malta, Denis Mathen, Governor of the Province of Namur, Richard Fournaux, Mayor of Dinant, and Magali Dugardin, President of the Consular Corps of the Province of Namur.

These speeches highlighted the importance of this new consular office for the city of Dinant, while emphasizing the role of honorary consulates in diplomatic, institutional, and local dialogue.

After the ceremony, a cocktail reception provided an opportunity to continue the discussions in a spirit of dialogue and cooperation.
