November 25, 2025 – Manneken Pis wears traditional attire to celebrate 50 years of Surinamese independence 🇸🇷🇧🇪

On November 25, 2025, Brussels celebrated 50 years of Surinamese independence – "50 jaar Srefidensi" – with a colorful event held on the Grand Place. For the occasion, the famous Manneken Pis statue was dressed in traditional Surinamese costume.👕✨.


The Consular Corps of the Province of Namur was represented by Claude Dellisse, who was present to attend this cultural and symbolic celebration.


Traditional Surinamese clothing unveiled in the heart of Brussels 🎨


The costume presented on November 25 is a traditional Surinamese outfit designed especially for Manneken Pis. It features the national colors—green, yellow, and red—frequently used in Srefidensi celebrations. 🎉.


The costume was designed by Sandhya Manniesing, Xaviera Domini, and Cobi van Harten. Their work was praised by the Embassy as a vibrant tribute to Suriname's cultural heritage..

A celebration of Suriname's Independence Day 2025 at the Grand Place 🎺


The Embassy of Suriname invited the public to the Grand Place to mark this historic milestone. Several members of the Surinamese community were present, dressed in traditional attire, along with a "brasband" musical performance, as announced in the official invitation.


Claude Dellisse, member of the Consular Corps of the Province of Namur, represented the CCPN at this celebration and had the opportunity to talk with H.E. Gilbert Van Lierop, Ambassador of Suriname to the Kingdom of Belgium and the European Union. 🤝.

The term "Srefidensi" comes from Sranan Tongo and means "independence." It refers to November 25, 1975, the date on which Suriname became a sovereign state.


The year 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of this independence, celebrated worldwide under the name "50 jaar Srefidensi."🌟.
